Halloween

Good news!

Max has finally decided what to be for Halloween.

"SUPER MAX!"

And yes, you must yell when you say that.

For two whole days he has said that he will be Super Max. As we were discussing this yesterday, I told him that I would make him a really neat costume. There would be a cape and a mask and tights...................

"NO! I don't want to wear those!"

"You don't want to wear what?' I ask.

"NO TIGHTS!" he says.

So then I ask him "Do you even know what tights are?"

He looks at me blankly and says "what are they?"

Yesterday, we went to Wal Mart and while we were there we looked at all of the Halloween decorations and some of the costumes.

Max saw a Pirate costume.

Today he says he wants to be a pirate. I got excited "Oh Max, I can make you the cutest pirate costume! You can have red velvet jacket, I can make you some boot s to go over your shoes and you can have a parrot on your shoulder and an eye patch, and a really cool sword..............

He looks at me like I'm crazy and says "I didn't want one like that, I wanted one that you buy at the store."

Then I explained to him that in our family I always make the costumes. Yes I know I'm insane, my kid wants a $14 store bought costume and I'm going to force him to wear something that I've made.

I've always made my kid's costumes and I'm just worried that someday, Max will look back at the Halloween pictures and wonder why he was the only one who didn't get a costume made by mom. By the way I look at it, I'm just saving him a few years of therapy.

I think I might have convinced CJ to dress up for Halloween. Due to the fact that he is 14 and looks 17, he won't be going out collecting candy, but instead he will be staying home passing out candy, and he might have figured out that since me and DH will be taking Max trick or treating, then he will be home by himself.

Just him and the big bucket of candy.

I told him if he dressed up, he could enjoy some of that candy.

I will be putting together a really cool vampire costume for him.

Question of the day.

Chimichangas. Finger food or not?

Please leave your answer in the comments. I'm having a bit of a disagreement with my greasy fingered children.

Not a finger food. At all.

I am wondering if my 14 year old is going to dress up either. Maybe I will tell him the same thing.

Good luck with the pirate costume!! Buying or making :P

I think they CAN be finger food, but I usually eat them with a fork.

And you make the most amazing costumes.

You are so funny! I really enjoy reading your blog. I am a new follower and have to say thanks for sharing with us. I totally get this costume problem of yours. I too go a little overboard with the homemade costumes, I have five that keep me guessing with new costume ideas. My fourteen year old is dressing up too... Dorthy Gale is the latest idea, she just wants the ruby shoes! Do we ever grow out of it? Answer: Not in this lifetime! Good luck, at least you have an answer out of the infamous MAX! Happy stitching!-Cori

CHIMICHANGAS! (They should be yelled just like SUPER MAX!)

If they're from Los Hermanos, GOOD LUCK eating them with your fingers.

I'm sure you can figure out where I stand on the chimichanga question.

You might consider the option of SUPER MAX TURNED PIRATE. He could stand for freedom, justice, the American way and booty, arrgh.

please tell me you are teaching max to TALK LIKE A PIRATE, matie!

i generally eat chimis with a fork, but that's because i like them smothered in cheese and sour cream and guacamole. you know, all healthy like. ;)

Finger food? No.

I can't wait to see what Max ends up as! :) Marshy is supposed to be a turtle...if I can ever get the time to make the costume. I'm crazy like you. haha. I don't know, I just think it's so much more fun to be totally unique than dressed like someone who bought their costume at the same store.

Good for you on making the costumes. My kids were always ghetto in the store bought ones....

I like that SUPER MAX!!

I say make the costumes and tell Max how awesome and lucky he is to have an amazing mama! My mom always made my sisters costumes but when I came along juts 3 1/2 years later she just figured I could reuse theirs. I got a few homemade dresses but I think I got maybe 1 halloween outfit. I'm not bitter. Really. I just look back now and wonder.

Not really a finger food. At least for me.

And I totally understand your desire to make him wear a homemade costume. The homemade ones are always better and more memorable. I've been trying, but I'm not consistent as I'd like to be.

Chimichangas - finger food meaning snack? No, they're a meal. Finger food meaning eat with your hands? Yes. I think they're a bit like a burrito.

And sorry about the garbage can - I hope it was the day after collection and not the day before.

(BTW - apparently it could have been my second child as he spent the last two days telling me that HE was controlling the winds; insanity IS hereditary.)

I say finger food! Just get them each a finger bowl, and napkin to go with it!
