Would you like some crazy sauce to go with your tamiflu?

Actual conversation we had while ordering pizza at a popular place to buy pizzas "Hot and ready"

Pale and sickly looking cashier girl: "Hi, welcome to Tiny Cheesers*, how are you this evening?"
Us: "We're doing well, how are you?"
PASLCG: "I'm sick"
Us: ?????
PASLCG: "Yeah, I really don't feel good, and I have to be here for another two hours."
Me: "Oh I'm sorry to hear that."
DH: "That's too bad."
PASLCG: "Well, I'm pretty sure I've got the flu, I really don't feel good. What can I get for you?"
DH: "We don't want the flu."
PASLCG: "I'm just the cashier, I won't get you sick."
DH: "We've had our shots so we'll have two hot and ready pepperonis and we have a coupon for a free order of crazy bread"
PASLCG: "That will be $10.71."

We pay the girl and another healthier looking girl comes from the back, hands us our food and we leave.

Seriously, if you're at work and you are sick GO HOME! If you are the manager of such an establishment and one of your employees is sick, SEND THEM HOME!

* Not the real name of the establishment, if you use your imagination, I'm sure you can figure it out.
If you are the owner of such an establishment, please be sure to properly instruct your employees on what to do when they are sick.
If you are with the health department, contact me and I will provide you with the location of the establishment, and the date and time we were there.

I couldn't agree with you more!

Many years ago, when I worked at a popular, quick 1 hr glasses establishment at the mall, I had the flu and spent the first hour of my shift in the bathroom. When I told my co-manager I needed to go home he told me I was probably just pregnant and to deal with it! Turned out I was really REALLY sick and he eventually let me off.

After that, whenever someone told me they weren't feeling good, I let them leave. Better to be safe than sorry...especially when you're breathing in people's faces (or on their food)!!

Unbelievable that she was sick, but even more unbelievable that she announced it to everyone!

I hate it when sick people go to work, Sheesh! Really you are not really helping things by being there.

Tiny Cheesers always has the most "helpful" teenagers working there. I swear no one over the age of 19 ever works there!!!

I agree completely!! I always send sick employees home - and I stay home and keep my germs to myself when I'm sick.

How ridiculous. I can't believe she'd tell you that she had the flu. WTF?

One problem with these places is they don't give their employees paid sick leave. Many many working people in this country can't afford to stay home from work when they are sick. Perhaps this girl is one of those people.

Amen, to that!

I would have turned around and found another pizza joint. But, that's the germaphobe in me!

Maybe she was announcing it because her nasty employer wouldn't let her go home. Seriously. I used to work for a company with restaurants and if you couldn't get someone to fill your shift, you had to come in. It didn't matter if you'd burned the heck out of your hand on their grill the night before or were in the ER. So, I feel her pain.

On the other hand....I think I would have gotten my pizza elsewhere.

I remember going into a Subway once and the dude making the sandwich was hacking so hard I think I saw a lung fly out of his face.

I asked him how long he'd been sick and he was barely audible.
My friend and I turned and left him still making the sandwich.

No thanks, phlem was not part of my order

So I had to read this because it happens all the time at Little Ceasars. I know because my 18 yr college kid is the manager there and wants to resign soon because he can't be a babysitter to "dummies." I have read through some of your posts and feel I need to follow your journeys in the 2010.

Happy New Years!

check us out sometime

I wish I had that option, last weekend I had an awful headache and as supervisor in charge there was no way I could go home. When I rang my manager was told there was no way she was coming in. Then she had the hide to ring another staff member to find out how sick I was. Even though the staff member told her that I looked like I was going to pass out it made no difference. Not that it was anything infectious, was JUST a migraine.

Another manager forced a sick staffer to come to work, he was like the walking dead, then she proceeded to take the next week off on sick leave because she felt tired.

Luckily we don't work in the food industry, we still deal with the public and get a lot of expectant mothers in as well as babies.
