Yes. It drives a person crazy. Too many kids are raised learning that they can have/achieve anything if they want it bad enough. Confusing, then, that someone would tell them they couldn't, right?
These shows sort of warp our idea of what's important, eh? Sometimes we don't get what we want, people. Move on! Get used to failure like the rest of us.
Still a hilarous show to watch and I wouldn't miss it.
Can I add one to the list? I seem to constantly hear from these untalented contestants that they have a disease/ handicap/ aging grandmother/ fill in your favorite hardship here. And somehow those people always seem to make it on to the next level!
I feel this way about my blog.
(So, are you saying I'm an untalented blogger? Because my grandmother likes it.) (Actually my grandmothers are deceased, but my aunts like it.)
Also, I will be my grandchildren's number one fan. Totally objectively, they will DESERVE to win everything.
I don't watch any of the talent shows, though my daughter does.
Sometimes you don't get what you want. That is a hard lessoon for some kids to learn. In kindergarten they taught the kids this year, "you get what you get and you don't throw a fit", which is referrenced many times during the day, for snack choices, seat choices in the cafeteria, etc.
Our favorite summer show...some of those people have had their family mislead (read lie to them) about how talented they really are!!
And really my word verification is "arear" why can't I get those when you are playing the game?
Just call me Jo said it best.
Get used to failure people and move on.
Other than SYTYCD and RHNJ I am SO over the reality shows.
And the people who are usually saying this are all of 15 years old. Their whole life? Pffft! I've got jeans older than them!
I can't stand those reality talent shows. But that's mainly because I have no talents.
Those shows make me think that sometimes it's kinder to say, "honey, you just don't have the talent for that". But of course you must back it up with "you have so many other talents like ----" and name them. Redirect their focus, redirect, redirect.
If you've got talent, you've got talent. If you don't...you don't. Begging won't make it any better for the rest of us.
When I was a child, maybe 8, I used to think I was this amazing singer...until I recorded myself and listened. Yikes. Luckily, my life long dream I was born to do ended before my public embarrassment.
