Conversations with a three year old

So, it's almost 2:00 a.m. and I'm still awake. Apparently, a diet Coke after 10:00 is not a good idea.

Today, we had some interesting conversations with Max.

#1.
Me: "Max, I thought I buttoned the buttons on your shirt. Why are they undone now? Did you unbutton them?"

Max: "Yes I did, because they were also FREAKING ME OUT!!"

#2.
Brielle: "Max, I'm going to help you clean up your puzzle, O.K.?"

Max: "No! Do you want me to FLIP OUT? I also going to FLIP OUT!"

#3
(I sit in the rocking chair with Max every night, and sing to him before he goes to bed. We have a glider rocker with a gliding ottoman.
Earlier in the day Max had moved the ottoman around so that it moved side to side instead of back and forth with the rocking chair.
I had the nerve to move it back.)

Max: "No, it also can't be that way! IT'S FREAKING IT OUT! THE OTTOMAN IS ALSO FREAKING OUT!"

(I think he's spending way too much time under the influence of his older siblings.)

Earlier today, Max was starting in with the questions again, and so I tried another tactic.

Max: "Why is this a stool?"
Me: "Why do you think it's a stool?"
Max: (Looking at me like I'm a complete moron) "Because it's a stool."

(duh!)

If only I had known earlier that it was that easy. At least now I know how to answer him.

On a lighter note, we had a bit of a victory today :0)

Max ate a vegetable!

O.K. it was just a small piece of lettuce and he did say that he liked it, however, he wouldn't eat any more, but hey, we need to start somewhere!

I can't get enough of that kid. Congratulations on the lettuce eating. And on figuring out the best response to all the questions!

OK - he is FREAKING ME OUT with laughter! I love it! My 3 year old has picked up the expression, "It is all necessary for order in the world" - where, I have no frigging clue - but apparently it can mean putting toys in certain order, putting the milk in the fridge, brushing your teeth and yes, even going pee.

Where you going?
To the potty - it is It is all necessary for order in the world.

WTF?????

I am commenting to say that I well also love the way 3-year-olds randomly distribute adverbs also in their sentences, either.

I also love the also in everything. Jill, you are so funny. That little kid totally sounds like someone worth meeting.

How funny!! My youngest loves the word freaking. She will say things like, "Give me a freaking drink!" and "I want that freaking toy!" GOOD TIMES!!

too funny. I was (almost) amused when my 4 year old said to me once, "Don't be a freak, mom." I totally blame that one on their dad.

What a great way to get him to answer his own questions!

I love the way he talks and I love the phrases. Too funny!

Max is my favorite. And if you will stop freaking him out, life will get much easier.

I second Jo's remark. Clearly, this is all your fault.

Hey, did you hear that Jo can come on Saturday! YAY!!!!!!

Reminds me of a disco song, aaaaaaah, FREAK OUT! Awesome.

Congrats on the lettuce. Definitely a step in the right direction. I wish fruit snacks counted for real fruit points. Then I would be an awesome nutrition mom.

I think I need to take Max to work w/ me one day to make the day more fun. He is a little character in my mind and I can't wait to hear stories about him :)

You are so validating my life with these. Even the 2AM bit.

my 4yrold says 'freaking me out!'.

Hates salad, (but will eat broccoli)
Oh and he gags on mashed potatoes which is like a complete affront to my and my Idaho roots.

Love that.

LOVE MAX!!! I hate it when my buttons are freaking me out too.

I agree with Max. Buttons can be extremely freaky :) I always love hearing my little ones pick up new phrases and words... well, most phrases and words ;)

He is freaking awesome! (now that is something my teenager would say). All I can say is enjoy him now because he will be a teenager someday and you will need these cute years to reflect on. It's a matter of their survival at times and your sanity:)

LOL! Veggies are a tough one. I actually once built a forest out of broccoli with green beans lining a very corny yellow brick road to try to get my youngest to eat something heathy. He said he couldn't eat it because the flying monkeys had probably pooped all over it. DANG KIDS! LOL!
